Start Here. Go Anywhere.
If you’re planning to earn a bachelor’s degree, starting at WSCO is one of the smartest financial moves you can make. The general education classes you take here are the same ones required at four-year schools—we just don’t charge four-year prices. Most students save more than $25,000 by completing their first two years with us before transferring.
Small classes, hands-on support, and a whole lot less debt? That’s a win no matter where you’re headed next.
How the Transfer Pathway Works
The transfer pathway, often called 2+2, lets you earn a two-year associate degree at WSCO, then roll those credits into a bachelor’s program at a four-year college or university. Many students finish in two more years, though everyone’s timeline looks a little different. The goal is simple: make the jump easy, predictable, and cost-effective.
Transfer-Friendly Degrees
WSCO offers several programs built specifically for transfer:
Associate of Arts Degree
Associate of Science Degree
Associate of Individualized Studies (AIS)
Every one of these programs gives you a strong academic foundation and a clear pathway to your next step.
Your Credits, Protected
WSCO participates in Ohio’s statewide credit-transfer systems, which keep your hard work from disappearing into the void.
Ohio Transfer 36
The Ohio Department of Higher Education, following the directive of the Ohio General Assembly, developed a statewide articulation and transfer policy called Ohio Transfer 36. It makes it easier to transfer credits from one Ohio public college or university to another.
The Transfer Module contains 36–40 semester hours of specified coursework in English composition, math, fine arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural and physical sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. Completing Ohio Transfer 36 at one institution automatically satisfies the same requirements at the receiving institution.
Washington State has gone one step further by establishing agreements with nearby public and private colleges and universities that clearly define which courses taken here will be accepted when you transfer.
Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs)
Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs) are groups of foundation courses that represent a commonly accepted pathway to a bachelor’s degree. Any public higher education institution in Ohio may offer TAG courses or course sequences.
TAGs incorporate the Ohio Transfer Module along with additional pre-major and major coursework. These courses transfer directly into your major—guaranteed. In total, TAGs provide a reliable, guaranteed pathway for transfer students.
Some students may need to complete prerequisite coursework in math or science before taking required transfer-degree classes. While these courses support long-term success, they may extend your timeline slightly.
Transfer Support That Simplifies Everything
Planning to continue your education? Don’t go it alone. Our academic advisors and the Dean of Transfer and Services can help you:
- Find a four-year school that fits your goals
- Choose the right classes to stay on track
- Connect with transfer advisors at your next institution
- Meet visiting representatives right on campus
You’ll never have to wonder whether you’re making the right moves—we guide you every step of the way.
Built for a Smooth Transition
WSCO has transfer pathways with a wide range of four-year colleges and universities across Ohio and the region. While each institution has its own requirements, participation in Ohio Transfer 36, TAGs, and clearly defined pathways removes the guesswork.

Ohio Transfer 36
The Ohio Department of Higher Education, following a directive from the Ohio General Assembly, developed a statewide articulation and transfer policy known as Ohio Transfer 36. This policy makes it easier to transfer credits between Ohio public colleges and universities.
The Ohio Transfer 36 includes 36–40 semester hours (or 54–60 quarter hours) of approved coursework in English composition, mathematics, fine arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural and physical sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. Once completed at one institution, the Ohio Transfer 36 automatically satisfies the same requirements at the receiving institution.
Washington State College of Ohio goes one step further to ease the transition. We know you don’t want to waste time or money, so we’ve established agreements with nearby public and private colleges and universities that clearly define which courses taken here will be accepted when you transfer.
TAGs
Transfer Assurance Guides, called TAGs, are groups of foundation courses that represent a commonly accepted pathway to a bachelor’s degree. Any public higher education institution in Ohio can offer TAG courses or course sequences.
TAG incorporates the Ohio Transfer Module as well as additional hours in pre-major and major courses. This includes both required and elective courses. In fact, TAG courses will transfer and apply directly to your major–guaranteed. In its totality, TAG courses are a guaranteed pathway for our transfer students.
You should note that you may need to complete prerequisite courses in mathematics or science before attempting classes required for your transfer degree. While these classes aid in your success, it may mean it will take you a little longer to earn your degree.
