Ohio College Opportunity Grant

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant program offers financial aid to Ohio residents who demonstrate financial need based on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) results. Veterans attending a community college may become eligible for OCOG under specific circumstances

The Ohio War Orphan & Severely Disabled Veterans’ Children Scholarship (WOS) program offers financial aid to the children of veterans who lost their lives in combat or suffered severe disabilities. Eligibility extends to children of Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during officially declared periods of war or conflict.
The Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP) offers financial support to Ohio students enrolled in an approved Ohio nurse education program on at least a half-time basis or accepted for enrollment. NEALP aims to assist students who plan to pursue a nursing career after completing their education.
Eligible students with disabilities participating in Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities services can receive dedicated financial assistance for tuition and educational expenses during the current term. This support encompasses various disabilities and applies to individuals engaged in college and credentialing programs.

The Choose Ohio First Scholarship as part of the State of Ohio’s strategic effort to support undergraduate students in earning a certificate or associate degree in one of our many innovative academic programs.

Funds are for first-year students beginning a qualified STEM program at WSCO in Fall 2024 semester. This includes College Credit Plus (CCP) students who completed credits while in high school. Choose Ohio First scholarship funds awarded by WSCO are only available for courses taken at WSCO. The grant is for up to tuition and is a last dollar scholarship. This means other grants and scholarships will be applied to your tuition and fees before it. Here is an example: Tuition: $2290 -Federal Grants: $500 -Community Scholarship: $50. Balance Owed: $1,740 -Choose Ohio First: $1,740 Balance Owed: $0 Deadline: First day of Fall semester. Any applications received after the first day of the semester will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and if approved may not be awarded until next semester. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: To qualify for this scholarship, students must:

  • Be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • Males,18-25, must be registered with the Selective Service. For more information, and to register, visit SSS.gov
  • Be a resident of Ohio
  • Maintain at least part-time status (6 credit hours minimum) in an eligible program of study
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Funds are for students beginning their first term in a qualified STEM program (Science, Technology, Mathematics, Manufacturing, and Health Sciences). NOTE: Students must also agree to participate in a Work-Based Learning experience (for example, an internship), education and mentoring meetings, must participate in a Choose Ohio First eLearn community, and are required to meet regularly with their Academic Advisor. The Great Minds Fellowship is a program available to Ohio students who are within two years of graduating with degrees or certificates in fields such as social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, psychiatric/mental health nursing, and substance abuse/addiction counseling. Fellows can receive up to $10,000 for scholarship opportunities during their studies, which covers costs related to obtaining their degrees or certificates, paid internships at Ohio’s Community Behavioral Health Centers (CBHC), and expenses associated with required license and certification preparation and exams.
The Ohio National Guard Scholarship Program pays 100% of tuition and general fees at state institutions for members of both the Ohio Army and Air National Guard. The scholarship encourages young Ohioans to go to school in Ohio and serve in the Ohio National Guard.
