IMPACT REPORT

The WSCO Foundation Impact Report celebrates the incredible difference our supporters have made in the lives of Washington State College of Ohio students. Thanks to our YOUR generosity, the Foundation has been able to continue providing critical funding for scholarships, transportation, food assistance, and programs that foster student success. Your support has helped open doors to education, enhance campus resources, and fuel key initiatives that make a real impact. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to our students and the future of WSCO.

 

WHAT’S NEW IN 2024?
Bailey Family Medical Laboratory Technology Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. Preference is given to students who are residents of Washington or Wood Counties that demonstrate financial need. This scholarship was established by Rebecca and Kenneth Bailey.
 
The Carson Thomas Miller Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Carson and Barbara J. Miller in loving memory of their grandson. The award supports a student in the WSCO Social Services program with special consideration to someone who has been or is related to someone who has experienced challenges with suicide.
 
The Darla Boone RN-BSN Scholarship, created by colleagues and alumni, honors Darla Boone, WSCO Nursing Advancement Director for her 30 years of service and her key role in establishing the RN-BSN pathway at Washington State College of Ohio. The award benefits a student accepted into the BSN program in good academic standing.
 
The Engles Natural Healing & Massage Therapy Scholarship was established by WSCO alumnus Patrick Engle that supports a Massage Therapy student that demonstrates academic promise.
 
The Nine Oaks Neurodivergent Student Scholarship was established by Darren Pitchford. The award celebrates and supports the unique needs and talents of neurodivergent students.
 
The Ora Waveline Lane Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Jona and Mr. Josh Rinard in honor of Dr. Rinard’s grandmother, who was a single mother who prioritized family and believed in the transformative power of education. The award provides financial assistance to a student with financial need, with special preference given to single mothers.
Honoring Our 2023-2024 Distinguished Alumni Award Winners

Bradley Ullman
Class of 2011
Outstanding Professional Achievement

Dr. Bradley Ullman, a 2011 graduate of Washington State College of Ohio, comes from a family of WSCO graduates. His parents, as well as both of his sisters, graduated with associate degrees. During his time on campus, he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was one of two graduation speakers for his class. He then went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from the University of Akron followed by his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2017. He completed an anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida Health Jacksonville and currently works as a member of the Cardiac Anesthesia team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Dr. Ullman’s areas of interest include trauma and cardiac care. When not working at the president’s hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife Danielle and his 10-month-old son Bennett.

Katherine “Katie” Warden
Class of 1999
Outstanding Professional Achievement and Community Service

Katherine “Katie” Warden has proudly served the community as a Marietta City Police Officer for more than 20 years. Warden graduated from Washington State Magna Cum Laude and was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Criminal Justice Club. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Bowling Green State University in 2001. She immediately launched into her career with Marietta PD as a patrol officer. In 2015 she was promoted as the city’s first female sergeant and by 2022 was Marietta’s first female Chief of Police. In recognition of the high regard she’s held in by her fellow officers, they selected her for the Officer of the Year earlier this year.

Throughout her career, she has specialized in sex abuse crimes, served as a field training officer, and created the department’s Field Training Program for new officers. In her current role as Police Chief, she has developed an officer health and wellness program and created a therapy dog program that is used by the School Resource Officer in the Marietta School District.

She is an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12, assists in Shop with a Cop, she’s involved in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, and the annual Children’s Pool Party.

She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in law enforcement and public safety leadership through the University of San Diego. She anticipates to graduate in 2024.

She is supported by her husband, Marc Warden, who is a firefighter, and their teenage sons, Drew and Owen.

As we reflect on an incredible year of growth and transformation, we want to personally thank you for being an integral part of our community at Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO). This has been a remarkable year- not only did we embrace our new name, but we proudly introduced our first Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, expanding our commitment to providing exceptional education and career-ready graduates.

Every gift to the WSCO Foundation directly impacts our students, many of whom are juggling school, work, and family to build brighter futures. Thanks to your generosity, our students benefit from scholarships, access to food, and emergency grant support. These contributions represent more than financial aid—they bring hope, stability, and the encouragement that extends to students’ families. For many, your support means the difference between continuing their education or pausing to care for loved ones. You’re not only helping students; you’re uplifting entire families, empowering first-generation learners, and spreading opportunity throughout our community.
