A Crucial Role in Treatment and Care
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex requiring schools to take immediate action to end all forms of sex-based discrimination, prevent its recurrence and remedy its effects.
Discrimination includes harassment, gender-based violence, bullying, intimidation, retaliation
On the basis of sex β sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or perceived failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity
Sex-based discrimination is an umbrella term that includes, but is not limited to:
- Sexual harassment (quid pro quo and hostile environment)
- Sexual assault
- Domestic, intimate partner and dating violence
- Gender-based stalking
- Gender-based electronic bullying
