What is the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Like?
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program trains you to help people from all walks of life regain functional independence. Over the course of five semesters, you’ll learn a variety of rehabilitation modalities to assist patients ranging from the elderly to star athletes in their prime.
Occupational therapy plays a key role in helping people regain the movements and abilities they use every day– to work, play, and live life to the fullest. Through small class sizes and individualized instruction, you’ll build both the technical and interpersonal skills that make great occupational therapy professionals.
You’ll also gain real-world experience through professional practice placements with local healthcare facilities, giving you the confidence and hands-on training to step directly into the workforce. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to earn certification credentials that strengthen your resume and prepare you for career advancement.
By the end of this program, after completing your in-field clinicals and coursework, you’ll be ready to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam, qualifying you to apply for an OTA license in any U.S. state.
Is the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program Completely Online?
Coursework consists of in-person classes and hands-on training with our medical institution partners, which is required to complete the course competencies. However, some in-person classes may be substituted for an online version.
How Does the Professional Practice Experience Work?
Students who live within 20 counties of WSCO or within 50 miles of Marietta will be placed in a local clinical site. If you live outside this region, you’ll work with the Professional Practice Coordinator three semesters in advance to secure a local placement and establish a site agreement.
What Credentials Will I Earn in the Occupational Therapy Assistant?
You will earn an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, and be eligible to take the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam.
