Respiratory therapists help people who suffer from chronic respiratory diseases and play a crucial role in treating and caring for a variety of cardiopulmonary illnesses. In its annual job rankings, U.S. News and World Report lists respiratory therapy as No. 6 in healthcare and No. 16 among the top 100 careers overall.

Admission to the Respiratory Therapy program is limited and selective. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis by students who qualify. High school or equivalent introductory coursework in algebra, biology, and chemistry with a grade of “C” or higher is required prior to admission.

Successful completion of this program results in an Associate of Applied Science degree and eligibility to take the Entry-Level Therapist Multiple Choice Exam. This exam includes two cut scores. Passing the lower cut score qualifies the graduate as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Achieving the higher cut score also makes the graduate eligible to take the Registry Clinical Simulation Exam. Upon passing this exam, the graduate earns the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.

Can Anyone Enroll in the Respiratory Therapy Technology Program?

Is the Respiratory Therapy Technology Program Completely Online?

Coursework consists of in-person classes and hands-on clinical training with our medical institution partners, which is required to complete course competencies. Some in-person classes may be substituted with an online format and must be discussed with your advisor.

How Does the Professional Practice Experience Work?

Students who live within 20 counties of WSCO or within 50 miles of Marietta will be placed at a local clinical site. If you live outside this region, you’ll work with the Professional Practice Coordinator three semesters in advance to secure a local placement and establish a site agreement.

What Credentials Will I Earn from This Program?

Graduates earn an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy Technology and are eligible to sit for the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exams.
