WSCO Automotive Students Take Learning Beyond the Classroom at PRI Show

MARIETTA, OHIO — Students in Washington State College of Ohio’s (WSCO) Automotive Service Technology Program recently traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show, where they had the chance to see firsthand cutting-edge racing technology and engage with industry leaders.

The PRI Show is the world’s only trade show focused entirely on racing and motorsports. Each year, it brings together more than 1,000 companies, manufacturers, and industry professionals, giving students an up-close look at the latest tools, technology, and trends shaping the automotive and racing industries.

“This trip was a great learning experience for our students,” said Gary Smith, Automotive and Diesel Instructor at WSCO. “They were able to see modern equipment in action, talk with people working in the industry, and learn how the industry works beyond the shop floor.”

While at the show, students explored exhibits featuring advanced engine machining equipment and new automotive technologies, and sat in on educational sessions that covered topics like engine performance, chassis design, and the business and marketing side of motorsports.

The group also attended a live press conference where the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) announced a new small-tire racing class set to launch in 2026. This gave students insight into how industry decisions are made and how motorsports continue to evolve.

In addition to the educational components, students met and spoke with well-known racing figures and industry professionals, helping them make connections and see potential career paths within automotive service and motorsports.

“Trips like this really help students see where their education can take them,” Smith added. “It makes the connection between what they’re learning now and what they can potentially do after graduation.”

By attending the PRI Show, WSCO Automotive Service Technology students gained valuable industry insight and a clearer picture of what to expect after graduation making the trip both informative and inspiring.
