MARIETTA, OHIO — Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO), in collaboration with the Southern WV Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), recently hosted a high-energy Autocross and Dyno Days event that brought the community together for a day full of horsepower and fun. Free and open to the public, the family-friendly event drew in car enthusiasts from across the region.
The event featured a variety of automotive-themed attractions for all ages, including:
- Autocross Driving Course – Sponsored by the Southern WV Region SCCA, drivers put their skills to the test on a precision driving course.
- Car Show – Showcasing classic and custom rides, this was sponsored by the Rollin’ Oldies Car Club of Parkersburg, WV.
- Dyno Day Diagnostics – Hands-on horsepower testing conducted by WSCO’s own Automotive and Diesel students.
- Lunchtime Law Enforcement Showdown – A fun and friendly driving competition between local law enforcement agencies.
- Local Food Trucks – Delicious eats from Leslie’s Grub Shack, Napoli’s Pizza, McHappy’s Donuts and Bake Shoppe, Country Roads Kettle Corn, and Lisk Family Farms LLC.
“Dyno Days had an outstanding turnout and truly opened the doors for community engagement. It gave us the opportunity to proudly showcase the Automotive and Diesel programs here at WSCO, highlighting the hard work of our students and faculty,” said Ryan Moore, WSCO Automotive and Diesel Instructor. “The students who assisted with the dyno demonstration came away even more inspired and excited about pursuing their careers in automotive and diesel technology,” continues Moore.
While general admission was free, participants in the Dyno Day diagnostics paid a $125 entry fee, with all proceeds going to the Dan Blake Automotive-Diesel Program Improvement Memorial Fund. This fund supports program growth by helping with student initiatives, equipment upgrades, staff development, and facility enhancements. “The event helped us raise funds that will go toward purchasing updated equipment—an investment that will directly benefit future students as they prepare for careers in the industry,” added Moore.
WSCO’s Automotive and Diesel program is proud of the event’s success and is already looking forward to hosting similar events in the future. “After speaking with several attendees, there’s strong enthusiasm and support for making Dyno Days an annual tradition. We sincerely hope everyone who attended had a great time, and we’re already looking forward to hosting another successful event in the future,” shares Moore.
